Here are some things you may not have known about Johanna and Tom:
- While working in Rwanda to set up a women's health study, Johanna attended a genocide-prevention conference. She issued an aggressive inquiry to Paul Wolfowitz which was covered in the
International Herald Tribune.
- On October 30, 2007, a feral neighborhood cat moved in with Tom, and Bob promptly went from an emaciated 14 pounds to a sturdy 18.5 pounds. On her next visit, Johanna's cat Fiona was very concerned about Bob; a plywood wall was needed to keep them apart for over a month. Johanna's other cat James was unconcerned.
- Tom was editor-in-chief of his undergraduate newspaper, and later a New Mexico Fellow in the Office of the Governor in Santa Fe. Johanna was an intern at the Bureau of Land Management in Arizona researching the land ethic of ranchers.
- Tom has bachelors degrees from New Mexico Tech in Physics with minors in Computer Science, Psychology, Technical Communications, and Math, and an MBA from Loyola College of Maryland. Johanna has a bachelors degree in Socio-anthropology and Communications with a concentration in Film and Photography from Goucher College.
- Johanna was volunteering in Greenbelt before she met Tom, and Tom was volunteering in Baltimore before he met Johanna.
- Johanna and Tom received shockingly similar scores on the OkCupid "Would You Have Been A Nazi" test. They would both have been Expats that saw trouble brewing and left early. It was found that neither was "susceptible to brainwashing", each had "values and cares [which] extend beyond the borders of your own country", and
"Blind Patriotism does not reach unhealthy levels".
