Work Weekends

The Fall 2008 Work Weekend will be October 17–19. Put it on your calendar, and we hope to see you there! We need volunteers with any sort of useful skills--electrical work, painting, carpentry, cleaning--and even if you have no skills whatsoever you can learn some at camp.  Please contact Tom Jones for more information or to join the e-mail list.

What is a Work Weekend?

During a work weekend, volunteers come to camp and work on many projects to keep the cabins and grounds in good shape, and improve them as well. It's a fun time for camp members to spend time together, and also for non-members to see all of camp and consider whether they might want to become members. Work Weekends begin Friday afternoon, and end Sunday afternoon; volunteers are welcome for the entire time or just part of that time. The busiest period is always Saturday, when as many as 40 or 50 people are working.

Volunteers receive a Work Weekend commemorative mug, and food is prepared by camp Chef Joshua Engel. Most meals are prepared from scratch. This was the menu at the Fall 2005 Work Weekend:

Friday Dinner: 8pm
Meat and meatless "meatloaf", Rolls, Green beans, Salad, Dessert

Saturday Breakfast: 9am
Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes, Grits, Coffee, Orange Juice

Saturday Lunch: 1pm
Chile con carne, fresh vegetable soup, southern and northern cornbreads, vegetables, brownies, fruit

Saturday Dinner: 6pm
Deep fried turkey, roasted vegetables, baked squash, stuffing, pumpkin pie with bourbon whipped cream.

Sunday Breakfast: 9am
Fresh baked apple and blueberry muffins, Eggs, Orange Juice, Coffee.

Available All the Time:
Coffee, Lemonade, Mountain Spring Water, Snacks

Have you attended a Work Weekend in 2005 or 2006, and not received a t-shirt? If so, let me know your t-shirt size and I'll reserve a Work Weekend t-shirt for you. There are a few left, with a limited selection of sizes.
