This page includes information for warm-weather rentals, between April and October. If you're
interested in cold-weather rentals, see the cold-weather
version of this page.
We recommend bringing the following items
- Sleeping bags or bedding. Beds at camp have mattresses, but no bedding.
- Flashlights
- Maps, if you'd like to hike. We recommend the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club Map
#10, available at the PATC Maps Website.
- Antifreeze, to put into the toilets when you leave camp or if it gets
extremely cold at night.
- Your camera!
- A small first-aid kit
- Food. Make sure to bring extra food if there's any chance of a
snowstorm. If a sudden snowfall hits, you may be stranded at camp.
- Any special utensils or appliances. The cabins have refrigerators and electric stoves, but
you may want to bring special appliances like a waffle maker, ice cream maker, or
extra-sharp steak knives.
- Light bulbs, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, dishwashing soap, 33-gallon garbage bags, and other cleaning supplies and
toiletries.
- You may wish to bring wood saws and other implements if you intend to gather
wood to burn in the fireplaces or woodstoves. Or you may wish to bring pre-cut wood.
When you arrive at camp
- With your rental, you will receive the combination to your cabin(s). If the cabin is warm
when you arrive, you may want to immediately open windows. If the cabin is cold when you
arrive, you may want to start a fire in a woodstove. (Fireplaces can also help warm the
cabin, but aren't nearly as effective as the woodstoves.)
- The electricity will be turned off when you arrive at camp. Circuit breakers are
located in the bathroom of Cabin 1, the kitchens of cabins 2, 3, and 4, and next to the
entrance door in Cabin 5. Turn all the circuit breakers on.
Check a faucet to see if the water is flowing through the pipes. If it
is not, turn on all circuit breakers except the one labeled for the water heater.
- In the kitchen, the refrigerator doors should be propped open (so it
stays clean when
the power is off). Close the doors to allow it to get cold, which will take a
couple of hours.
Tips at camp
- Keep your car windows rolled up to keep out animals.
- Keep all dry food in the refrigerator, or specially labeled mouse-proof cabinets or drawers.
Otherwise, you may wake up in the morning to find mice have been nibbling your food.
- Cover the burners on the electric stove with a plate at night to keep mice from climbing
inside.
- If you are staying in Cabin 5, make sure to close its screen doors to keep bugs and other
small animals out of the cabin.
When you leave camp
- Pack all your garbage and take it with you when you leave. Leave an empty trash bag in each trash can, with the lid closed.
- Bring everything you came with--please do not leave extra food or other items.
- Prop refrigerator and freezer doors open with a chair. Take extra care to remove everything
from the refrigerators!
- Cover each stove burner with a plate.
- Sweep the floors if there's dirt or dust.
- Close all windows.
- Turn off all circuit breakers.
- Padlock all doors, and reset the combination to 0000.
- Pour some anti-freeze into the toilet bowls to keep them from freezing.
